Colm Cooper Tournament
An unforgettable weekend for our U13 footballers down in Killarney!
The adventure kicked off on Friday night with a truly special experience at Fitzgerald Stadium. The boys were treated to an exclusive tour led by GAA legend Colm Cooper himself. The Gooch spoke passionately about the rich history and traditions of Dr. Crokes GAA Club and Kerry, emphasising just how much his home club and county mean to him. His words left a lasting impression on the squad, setting the tone for an incredible day’s football on Saturday.
Bright and early on Saturday at Dr Crokes, the real work began. Facing opposition from all over the country, the boys played mighty football getting better with every single match. Over the course of the day, their teamwork, work rate and overall football improved game by game against teams from:
Portarlington Rd 1
Cortoon Shamrocks Rd 2
Dr Crokes Rd 3
Tourmakeady Semi Final
Navan O’Mahonys Final
With each performance, the boys got better and better saving their absolute best football for when it mattered most in the final v Navan O Mahonys ultimately winning the tournament after an epic battle with the Meath men!
A massive word of thanks goes to the coaches for all their hard work organising the weekend. The players were determined to repay that faith, and by winning the tournament, they secured an invitation for future Maynooth GAA teams to return to Killarney.
Huge thanks also to Colm Cooper and the members of Dr Crokes GAA Club for their hospitality on Saturday. Everyone was welcomed, fed throughout the day and displaying the true meaning of a good club man, the Gooch was right there until the end, cleaning and tidying up, leading by example, as he did so often on the field of play.
